We spent 22 days exploring Southeast Asia. We did so many amazing things in those 22 days but below are my top 3 activities I would say you can't miss out on!

Cooking Class in Chiang Mai Thailand

Attending a cooking class in Chiang Mai, Thailand, is an exhilarating experience that combines culinary exploration with a whole lot of fun. We chose to go with the Thai Smile Organic Farm and Cooking class. We picked them due to the affordable price of $20 a person which included pick up and drop off, as well as the fact you go to choose what you made off of a menu. The vibrant atmosphere of the city, renowned for its rich food culture, sets the perfect backdrop for an enjoyable cooking adventure. From the moment you step into the class, you'll be greeted with warm smiles and a contagious enthusiasm that immediately puts you at ease. The skilled and friendly instructor guides you through the intricacies of Thai cuisine, teaching you traditional techniques and sharing their secret recipes. As you don your apron and immerse yourself in the world of Thai spices and flavors, laughter fills the air, creating an infectious sense of joy and camaraderie among the participants. From chopping herbs to perfecting the art of stir-frying, every step is accompanied by laughter and excitement, making the learning process all the more enjoyable.

Beyond the cooking itself, the classes often offer a holistic experience, immersing you in the local culture. We started the day with a visit to a bustling local market, where we had the opportunity to handpick fresh ingredients and bargain with friendly vendors while soaking up the vibrant atmosphere. As we returned to the cooking studio, the scent of exotic herbs and spices waft through the air, heightening our anticipation for the culinary delights that lie ahead. With hands-on demonstrations and personalized guidance, we effortlessly recreated mouthwatering dishes like pad Thai, green curry, or hot and spicey soup. As we savored the fruits of our labor, sharing a meal with fellow participants, the atmosphere brims with laughter, storytelling, and newfound friendships. A cooking class in Chiang Mai is not only an opportunity to enhance your culinary skills but also a chance to create lasting memories and experience the joyous spirit of Thai culture in a truly immersive and fun-filled way.

Biking around Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, Cambodia

Biking around the magnificent Angkor Wat Complex in Siem Reap combines exploration, physical activity, and breathtaking sights. My husband who is an avid biker wanted us to use bicycles instead of tuk-tuks to get around Angkor Wat. We luckily were at a hotel that had bike rentals available for $3 USD and worked fine for what we needed them for.

As you hop on your bike and pedal through the ancient temple grounds, you can feel the warm breeze against your skin and the sense of freedom that comes with each pedal stroke. The vastness of the complex unfolds before you, with awe-inspiring temples rising from the lush jungle backdrop. The smooth roads and well-maintained trails make biking a convenient and enjoyable way to navigate the vast complex, allowing you to meander through the hidden corners and discover lesser-known temples at your own pace.

As you cycle along the tree-lined avenues and ancient causeways, you'll witness the grandeur of Angkor Wat from various angles, capturing its beauty in all its splendor. The thrill of biking brings a sense of adventure to your exploration, as you can easily stop wherever you please to admire intricate carvings, climb ancient stairs, or simply take in the serene atmosphere. The occasional encounters with local vendors selling souvenirs or refreshing coconut water add to the charm of the experience. With each turn of the pedal, you'll uncover hidden gems like the Ta Prohm temple, known for its iconic tree roots intertwining with the ancient ruins. Biking around the Angkor Wat Complex not only allows you to fully immerse yourself in the UNESCO World Heritage site but also provides a fun and memorable way to appreciate the rich history and architectural marvels of this ancient wonder.
